Helen Omolajo Amurohin

Helen_Omolajo_Amurohin_Helen Amurohin Omolajo was born in 1963. She was the fourth of Sunmola's children and bore greatest physical resemblance to her mother. Omolajo was a lively and intelligent child, even though her physical and academic growth was slightly retarded by sickle cell, which saw her often at the General Hospital, Okene. Her frequent visit to the hospital made her to become the friend of most of the hospital staff.

She was a talented vocalist in St Andrews' Anglican Church, Okene choir. She brought much fun into their performance through her sonorous and piercing voice, coupled with her manner of expression as they sang special numbers. Sometimes her peculiar way of acting out the message of the songs amused the congregation, while at the same time serving to register the message. She did everything with rigor, even though that might land her in the hospital the following day in the agony of joint pain.

Omolajo was industrious. She completed her secondary education, and was preparing to enroll in the nursing school at Obangede when, suddenly, her life was terminated by the same menace that had plagued her life since her youth. Amurohin departure in April 1987 was extremely painful to the family and her friends and her church in whose choir she was fast developing into a star. No wonder she was accorded the honour of a funeral given to and elder of the church. Truly, “Amurohin lived in deeds and not in days” and according to her fans, there will be many stars in St Andrews' Okene choir, but there can never be another Amurohin.
