Ajibola Iyabeji

Ajibola was the granddaughter of Osema, the daughter of Eminefo. She grew to be a hefty and energetic woman. In her early age, she traveled around the West and Midwest, dong some petty trading. She was a lively person who kade friends very easily. She put her energy into doing things.

Ajibola was the mother of Abigail Tola (Mrs. Owolabi). After Tola, she had several twin children, but only two other children, Victoria Taiye and Ige survived. She made frantic efforts to keep the children alive including appeasing the spirits of twins with cooked beans as was the belief and custom in those days. Kids always looked forward to those regular occasions as it gave them opportunity to feast on beans and other meals while they chanted “Epo mbe ewa mbe o”.

Ajibola was one of the people to be trusted in the family when it came to group work and directing affairs. She believed in the family and gave support whenever it was needed. She died in the late 60s.
