Initiation into Womanhood

History was made on her in the sense that, when the controversy surrounding OKe (woman initiation in the traditional way) was heated between the traditional district headship and the CMS church, Bimpe was taken to Oyara (the public arena) for initiation in the proper Ogori fashion. Her example emboldened other people who feared excommunication from the church to do same for their mature daughters. When, in 1961, the church conceded and adopted and spiritualised Ovia –Osese as a church ceremony, Bimpe was again initiated in the church in 1961. She was initiated a third time, when her guardian, Iya Aliu, insisted that if the matter had turned a spiritual one, she best trusted her own church. – Aladura Chruch.

Additional Details

Otaroress, as she may be called, is a great asset to the Eminefo family. She plays a very significant role in both her immediate family and that of her father's. She has been a stalwart in managing the affairs at home for the family. In any family event involving the family, she would always coordinate arrangements at home before those outside arrive. Symbolically, she is the first port of call when family members arrive at Ogori. Auntie Bims as she is fondly called can be adequately described as the eye of the family. She is blessed with many natural and acquired virtues. She is enterprising, and conducts her business with human face. Her place is a rallying and relaxing point in the evenings at home.

She has used her wide movement around the country to her advantage. She is popular and well liked within and outside Ogori.
